I was very worried about this one. I know the dramatic loss will stop soon, but I was hoping for 1-2 more weeks of it. Also, I was very bloated, retaining water like woah, and had not exercised for over a week (per my Dr.). However, with all that said, I am down another 4lbs! This makes 17 total in 3 weeks. I’ll take it!
I admit after this week break it is HARD to get motivated to exercise again. I love how I feel when I am done, but it is getting there that is hard. I was all gung-ho to get to the gym tonight, but then I came home…let out the dogs…decided to start cooking something to eat later tonight for dinner, and next thing I know I was in my PJs.
What are some things you do to get yourself moving? Apparently, for me, telling myself how good it makes me feel and how much more it will help my health is not quite enough…

I had been doing really well in the exercise department last spring … was running 4 miles three days a week and had dropped 20 lbs on weight watchers … then I got pregnant and went through several weeks of severe all day sickness followed by weeks of extreme fatigue and totally got out of the habit. Now that all that is behind me I really want to get back into some sort of exercise routine … even if it is a 30 min brisk walk everyday … but all I can muster is about a 10 minute walk with one of my dogs … some times I do take a second 10 minute walk with the other dog … but it isn’t enough. I know I would feel so much better if I would add more exercise to my day and it will help so much with labor, delivery and recovery. So, all in all it is very hard for me to get myself moving …
This is such a cliche, but I think you really need to find something you enjoy and look forward to doing as opposed to something you have to “get through”. Have you thought about trying some classes at your rec center? I know that can be a little intimidating and you might have to try several, but this can be motivating. After all my years of working out (and it is a VERY ingrained habit for me), I still have to mix things up. Do you like to dance? Zumba is a blast and really fun.
Ever thought about trying something like P90X? Yes, I know it is brutal and could be injurious, but it might be kind of cool to have a really structured program. And, maybe you husband would do it with you. :’}
Karen, you know I always love your advice and insight, thank you
I love the elliptical. But I guess I need to find something else as my old PT in Jax said that wasn’t good to use on a daily basis.
I remember taking a Pilates class once. I was so intimidated! I loved it though. You are right, I am still intimidated to go to classes – I am the one there like in those Denver YMCA commercials…not in the Metallica shirt, but in old crappy mismatched workout clothes and my hair a mess and all sweaty and not looking perfect and made up like other women in the few classes I’ve taken. I live that my rec center is new and within walking distance, but I definitely feel odd amongst all the Stepford Wives there :-/
Yeah, I know what you mean about the “perfect people”. Heck, I am one of the least fit people in the classes I take downtown – gives you an idea of how intimidating those classes can be. :’}
While this isn’t the best time of year to be suggesting it…do you like to walk? A long, brisk walk can be a great workout, especially if you find a route that has a few hills. Add in some trekking poles and you can get your heart rate up nicely.
But, with the days getting longer and colder, that isn’t going to be a good option during the week.
Anyway…keep up the good work! If you ever want me to cover over and show you some stuff, I’d love to do that. I have a bunch of exercise bands and tubes that I don’t even use. You are welcome to them. Maybe you could trade me a makeover!
You’ve got a deal!
